Glee's fourth season premiere ended with Kurt leaving Ohio behind and joining Rachel in New York, giving her a solution to her roommate problem. It also meant he left his boyfriend back at McKinley. What's next in Kurt's life?
Season 4 Spoilers
According to Entertainment Weekly, it's not going to be that easy to find a place to live in New York. Chris Colfer has teased, "They can't get their Manhattan apartment, so they have to go to Bushwick, and get an apartment there because it's cheaper. But their apartment is pretty nice, I have to say. For two broke kids, it turned out pretty nice." Considering Rachel's at NYADA and Kurt didn't exactly come to New York with a job already waiting, they'd be dreaming if they thought they could find a nice apartment in Manhattan. Besides, their new apartment has to be better for Rachel since she won't have to listen to her roommate sleep her way through the school anymore.
Kurt will be making progress on the job front though, since "he quickly scores an internship at Vogue, working under Sarah Jessica Parker's Isabelle Wright." Colfer previewed their "really cute relationship": "She is an office mentor to him, and they end up mentoring each other." So it seems like this move to New York is going to be a good thing for Kurt, just like Blaine and Burt thought it would be. He's going to have a place to live, apparently a paid internship, and a new future to work towards. It also sounds like things are going to be better for him with Isabelle than they are for Rachel with Cassandra. While Rachel was having a tough time in New York when she first got there, it seems like Kurt is going to thrive in the city.
But what will this mean for Kurt and Blaine as Glee season 4 progresses? Just because Blaine knew it was time for Kurt to leave Ohio behind and just because they're planning on being together despite the long distance, that doesn't mean that what they want to happen will. Colfer revealed, "[They're still together] for the first couple episodes. But, yeah, there is some development in that area." There is the ominously titled "The Break-Up" episode coming; could that be the end of "Klaine" on the show? Could they take a break, realizing the distance is too much? They're going to be in two very different places. Kurt has moved on from McKinley; Blaine is in his senior year. Previous spoilers have revealed that Blaine will be turning to extracurricular activities to deal with Kurt in New York; could they take up too much of his time that he and Kurt lose touch?
